Tech leader gives his view of millennials and what they need

Howard Tullman, a serial entrepreneur and tech leader, thinks the most important thing millennials can do is work for someone who is smarter than they are. In a video on inc.com, he describes what he thinks are millennials’ strengths and weaknesses.

Tullman is the Executive Director of the Ed Kaplan Family Institute for Innovation and Tech Entrepreneurship at Illinois Tech in Chicago and formerly served as CEO of 1871, Chicago’s Technology and Entrepreneurship Center. A tour of the Center was one of the optional Day 3 activities connected to the 2017 AWESOME Symposium.

Tullman’s outspoken comments include the view that being raised during a time when “everybody gets a trophy” has given some millennials unrealistic expectations and wrong assumptions. His advice to young people starting out is to realize that “a lot of smart people have come before you” and to “work for someone much smarter than you” before you think about starting your own business.

His advice to their bosses is to only express gratitude and thanks for real results.
